About AIMO

Asia International Mathematical Olympiad Union (AIMO Union) is a collaborative international organization among mathematical research organisations and individuals.

It is the mission of AIMO Union to provide teenagers with an international platform for the purposes of learning Mathematics, cultural exchange, intriguing their mathematical insights, improving their qualities of scientific thinking minds and hence enhancing the friendship and cooperation of teenagers from different countries/regions.

Up to present, AIMO Union has already established Secretariats in countries such as Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Turkey.

Since 2012, we have been holding AIMO Open together with worldwide top mathematical institutions. For the last years, AIMO Open has been successfully concluded (2012 Hong Kong, 2013 Taiwan, 2014 Chengdu, China, 2015 Thailand, 2016 Hong Kong, 2017 Malaysia, 2018 Thailand, 2019 Taiwan, 2020 Local). The number of students participating in AIMO Open keeps increasing.

AIMO 2019 – 20 edition is second year in India. In the  first  two years 2018-29 and 2019-20 we had more than 800 students participating in AIMO.

Registration Details

AIMO Trial

For: Grade 1 to Grade 12 (as of academic year 2020-21)

Where: Online from home (not from an examination Centre). On desktop/laptop only with webcam for remote proctoring.

When: Can be taken on 3 weekends of May 2021.

Registrations are Open Now.

Last Date of Registration:  April 30, 2021.

Fees: INR 600 per participant (student).

AIMO Finals

For: Grade 1 to Grade 12 – Only for AIMO Trial (2020-21) Award Winners.

Where:  South Korea or Online or Both (To be decided later based on pandemic situation).

When: Early August , 2021

Registrations will open in mid- June 2021 after result for eligible students who will be notified by email with registration link.

Students who register for Finals will also get temporary access to AIMO’s newly introduced Online learning system.  Click here to see details.

Last Date of Registration: TBA later (June end / Early July 2021).

 

Global Olympiads Academy invites students and schools from India only to register.

Fees:

  • INR 600 per student.  Discounts available on multiple competitions or multiple entries.

Contest Format 

1AIMO Trial (Local Trial Round)

Students: From Grade 1 to Grade 12 (Academic year 2020 – 2021)

*10 groups in total (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, S1, S2, S3 and SS)

*Grade 10-12 are grouped as Senior Secondary (SS)

*P1 is being introduced for the first time.

Language: In English

Question Format: All are Open ended questions

Group P1 to group S3 (Grade 1 to Grade 9)

  • Contest Time:
  • 60Minutes – P1 – P2 (Grade 1 and 2)
  • 70 minutes (P3 to S3) – Grade 3 to 9

 Group SS (Grade 10 to Grade 12)

  • Contest Time: 90 minutes

    Marking Scheme: 

    • Section A: 8 questions, 4 marks each
    • Section B: 8 questions, 5 marks each
    • Section C: 4 questions, 7 marks each
    • Total 20 questions, 100 marks

    AIMO Finals (Final Global Round)

    Students: Grade 1 to Grade 12 (2020-21)

    Same as Trial round.

    Eligibility: Get gold, silver or bronze honor award in local trial round of 2020-21 AIMO Open

    *10 groups in total (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, S1, S2, S3 and SS)

    *Grade 10-12 are grouped as Senior Secondary (SS)

    Language: In English

    Question Format: All are Open ended questions

    Registrations for Award winners of AIMO trials will begin after results.  Subscribe here for notifications.

    Seats are limited and registrations will be on first come first serve basis.

    Group P1 to group SS

    • Contest Time: 120 minutes

    Content: 

    • Section A: 12 questions, 3 marks each
    • Section B: 10 questions, 5 marks each
    • Section C: 8 questions, 8 marks each
    • Total 30 questions, 150 marks

    Awards & Qualifications

    AIMO Trial (Local Trial Round)

    Awarding:        

    • Gold honor: Top 10% of students in each group
    • Silver honor: Next 20% of students in each group
    • Bronze honor: Next 30% of students in each group

    * Awarding e-certificates will be given to students with gold, silver and bronze honors. Remaining students will get participation award. There are no medals, only e-certificates.

    * The exact awarding percentage will be slightly adjusted if some of the students are getting same marks.

     

    Only AIMO Trial award (Gold, Silver & Bronze only) winners will be eligible to apply for AIMO Finals.

    AIMO Open (Final Global Round)

    Awarding:       

    • Gold honor : Top 10% of students in each group
    • Silver honor: Next 20% of students in each group
    • Bronze honor: Next 30% of students in each group
    • Champion: The 1st student in each group
    • First runner-up: The 2nd student in each group
    • Second runner-up: The 3rd student in each group
    • National star: The top student in each country/region

    * Awarding certificates and medals will be given to students with gold, silver and bronze honors.

    * Trophy cups will be given to champion, first runner-up, second runner-up and national star.

    * The exact awarding percentage will be slightly adjusted if some of the students are getting same marks. Students born later will be given the preference for awards when they have the same scores.
