ABOUT HKIMO
HKIMO, is named as Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad, is developed by former Hong Kong Mathematical Olympiad Team Team Leader Mr Wong Tin Chun.The objective to develop HKIMO is to promote Mathematical Olympiad all over the world. The examination paper consists of 5 main topics: Logical Thinking, Arithmetic (Kindergarten / Primary Section) / Algebra(Secondary Section), Number Theory, Geometry & Combinatorics.
HKIMO Heats is conducted at country level to identify Mathematical talent who can then participate in HKIMO Finals in Hong Kong subject to qualifying.

WHO CAN REGISTER?
- School/Institutions can register their students OR
- Parents/Students can register individually/privately.
Last Date of Registration for Heats (Country level round): 11th May 2025.
Fees: INR 1800 per participant (student). Discounts available on multiple competitions or multiple entries.
Fees include: Access to some past papers and answer keys as downloadable soft copies.
Online exam login credentials, schedule and exam instructions will be provided by email after registrations close one week before the exam.
Registration for Heats round (Country level round) through G.O.A. is open only for students from India.
Registrations for HKIMO Finals for eligible students (Award winners in Heats round) Open after HKIMO Heats round results are out by June end 2025.
Please treat Heats round and Finals round as two separate competitions although eligibility for Finals is through Heats round as Finals might be held in Hong Kong/Macau region and one has to bear the expenses of travelling there on their own. Even if the Finals take place Online due to the pandemic, the registration fees for that is much more than Heats round as the Finals has lot of features like World star Awards, qualification for WIMO etc.
How to Prepare for the Olympiad
- You will receive some past papers access with answer keys on registration for many Olympiads. This will be assigned as a course to you under the “My Courses” section of this website when you login to you account.

HKIMO Finals is usually held in Hong Kong/Macau region. It might be held Online if travel restrictions continue due to the pandemic.
HKIMO Heats

- Gold Award :80% percentile and above
- Silver Award : 60% percentile and above
- Bronze Award : 40% percentile and above
- Merit Award : 20% percentile and above
- Total Award : The highest 3 scorers in each grade by global ranking
* Awarding certificates and medal will be given to students with gold, silver and bronze awards. Remaining students will get participation certificates.
* The exact awarding percentage will be slightly adjusted if some of the students are getting same marks.
Awards – The Champion Trophy | 1st Runner-up Trophy | 2nd Runner-up Trophy
*If the same score case happened, HKIMO will consider winner’s Date of Birth. The younger winner will be ranked higher.
Eligible students (Gold/Silver/Bronze Awards) will be sent an email invite to register for finals being held in a different country (Online also only if the organizer OCEC offers it) by paying an additional registration fee.
Please note that all expenses and fees for Finals has to be borne by students/parents which will be notified to them once registration opens for Finals for eligible students.
Please treat Heats and Finals as separate competitions. Students eligible for Finals who do not register for Finals will still receive their Heats awards.
HKIMO Finals

World Star Trophy: Highest scorer(s) from each region or country (not as per grades). Winners to get Free entry (registration fee waiver) for next year’s HKIMO Finals subject to qualifying through next year’s HKIMO Heats.

Gold Award Winners of HKIMO and TIMO Finals (need to win Gold awards in both Finals) qualify for WIMO (World Mathematical Olympiad) which is a free competition among best Math students across the world. A free two days workshop is also arranged on Olympiads Training by past IMO Winners and Math now Math coaches. WIMO is held in different countries country every year or Online (due to the current pandemic). Students qualify for WIMO also through TIMO (Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad) Finals with same criteria.
*Founded in 2014 by President Mr Andy Lam, President Prize has a mission to create a better world through education. The objective for running President Prize is to help elite students whose family financial in need to join International Mathematical Olympiad Competitions such as TIMO & HKIMO. To ensure transparency and sustainability, President prize is managed by Olympiad Champion Education Foundation and governed by an independent team of professional & voluntary lawyers & accountants with an endowment of HK$8 million (US$1 million) with an annual return of 5%. Through a series of initiatives, the prize serves to establish a platform that allows the global community to engage in conversation around education and to play a role in education philanthropy. To introduce International Mathematical Olympiad to Kindergarten, Primary & Secondary students all over the world, WIMO provides an International Mathematical Olympiad platform to all HKIMO & TIMO Final Round GOLD winners (Need to win Gold Award in Both Finals). After the competition, WIMO offers ALL participants to learn from IMO Trainers at the end of the year.
OCEC
Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad, HKIMO is organized by Olympiad Champion Education Centre from Hong Kong. Mr Andy Lam, founder of HKIMO, who was a former IMO winner, got 2 A grades in HKCEE and 2 A grades in HKALE. He had 16-year Mathematical Olympiad teaching experience. To stimulate and foster young people’s interest in learning mathematics, to strengthen the ability of their creative thinking, to widen their international perspective, and to promote the development of kindergarten, primary and secondary education and exchange of educational cultures throughout countries, now he integrated a Hong Kong former IMO winner team to organize HKIMO. This year, HKIMO committee members invited 14 regions / countries such as Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Ukraine, Philippines, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Taiwan, Vietnam, Myanmar, India and Cambodia to participate.
